\nDas Sobachoco, dessen trapezf\u00f6rmige Form in den 400 Jahren seit seiner Erfindung unver\u00e4ndert geblieben ist, hat seinen Ursprung in Hizen (heutige Pr\u00e4fekturen Saga und Nagasaki), wo sich der Hafen von Imari befindet, von dem aus das Imari-Porzellan in ganz Japan verbreitet wurde.
\nAnders als ihr Name vermuten l\u00e4sst, war die sobachoco nie f\u00fcr Soba gedacht. Urspr\u00fcnglich wurde sie als kleine Schale f\u00fcr Beilagen wie Sashimi, Salate und Shiokara-Konserven bei Feierlichkeiten und Kaiseki-Mahlzeiten verwendet. Erst in der Edo-Periode wurde Soba in der breiten \u00d6ffentlichkeit popul\u00e4r. Die Leute benutzten ihr sobachoco oft, um einen schnellen Aperitif namens Sobamae zu sich zu nehmen, bevor sie es mit Dip-Sauce f\u00fcr Soba f\u00fcllten, eine Tradition, die sich bald in ganz Japan verbreitete.
