Description

Koinobori, or carp streamers, are traditional decorations in Japan, displayed in gardens on May 5th to celebrate Children’s Day. They are considered lucky charms that express wishes for boys to grow up strong and achieve success in life. This tradition began during Japan’s Edo period (1603–1868). At the time, the birth of a male heir was a major celebration among samurai families, who would raise banners adorned with helmets and family crests.
This custom eventually evolved within the merchant class, where people began designing streamers featuring bold images of carp—fish known in Chinese legend for swimming upstream and leaping over waterfalls to become dragons. As such, the carp became a symbol of perseverance and social advancement. Over time, these carp designs were crafted into three-dimensional fabric streamers that flutter in the wind, forming the koinobori we know today.

This masking tape, decorated with rows of these auspicious carp streamers, lets you enjoy the charm of koinobori not only on Children’s Day, but throughout the entire year.

Perfect for gift wrapping, cards, collages, and more, adding a unique touch to your creations. This decorative paper tape is easy to use and remove, making it ideal for a variety of creative projects.
